Product Previews/Reviews/Promotion FAQs
Hello!
We have had quite a few questions about what we offer when it comes to helping promote a game or product, including previews and reviews, so we thought it would be a good idea to put all the information on our site.
Our Core Belief
When we started the Bucket List Board Gamers Podcast, we wanted it to be entertaining, fun and enjoyable to listen to, but we also wanted it to be helpful. In fact, Jay's initial reasoning for coming up with a podcast in the first place was to help out friends that he had made at UKGE and Airecon, who were in the process of launching their first titles via Kickstarter.
The plan was to try and improve their exposure, and bring their products to more people. Even if it only led to one more person following the campaign, or backing the Kickstarter or Gamefound, it would be worth it.
Things have changed a little since then, and now the Podcast not only covers upcoming games and products, but a whole range of things that we think people would like to listen to... but that core value is still there and one we strive for.
If we can help someone get their product noticed, provided it is one we like/love/think our listeners will appreciate, then we want to do it.
How Can We Help?
There are a number of options we offer if someone has a game or product they would like us to help out with:
- We're always happy to receive a demo copy or prototype of a game (who isn't!?) which will allow us to play it and then post social media content and cover it on a future episode of the podcast. However, we understand we are a very young podcast and are still expanding our audience, so we won't be offended if you don't think the cost associated with a demo copy is worth the exposure we can offer.
- You can join us on the podcast to discuss your game, your company, how you got into board gaming... and anything else you'd like to talk about really. We love doing interview episodes, and our listeners get to hear about the game 'from the horses mouth'!
Of course we're also happy with a combination of the two. It helps us with the interview episodes if we have an idea of the game in the first place, but it isn't a necessity.
Do We Charge?
In short; no.
Yes we have costs to cover, but we have discussed the subject at length and we wouldn't like to think that our opinion had been swayed by being financially compensated for coverage.
If we were being paid to do previews or reviews, there is a chance we could be unconsciously biased toward the product, and that isn't fair on our listeners, or developers looking for honest feedback.
We DO however, have a Patreon and should you be happy with the content we've created about your game or product, you are more than welcome to sign up to one of the tiers afterwards and support us that way (even if it's just for a single month!) although please don't feel obligated to do so!
What if We Have Criticisms of the Game/Product?
We're generally quite a positive bunch here at BLBG, and because we have quite a diverse range of hosts, what might not be for one of us might be right down someone elses alley.
However, if we did have any major criticisms (it's never happened so far!) we wouldn't just post something negative and have done with it. We would contact you first and explain/clarify our points (after all it could just be that we have misinterpreted something) then give you the final call on whether we put out any coverage or not.
What Can You Expect from Us?
When we are sent a demo copy or a prototype of a game or product, we make every effort to play it and incorporate it into an episode as quickly as we can.
If you have a specific date (Kickstarter or Gamefound Launch/End dates, Late Pledges opening, Publishing date etc) we will always try our best to get something out to coincide with it and put as many eyes on the game or product as we can.
We will always commit to putting out content on our social media pages about things we are sent (pictures, a mini-review etc) but we can't 100% guarantee when we will be able to cover them in an episode of the podcast (unless specifically agreed), and we like to make that very clear.
If there is a hard deadline when you would need content to be live by, please discuss it with us beforehand to make sure we can accommodate.
Anything Else?
Hopefully that answers any questions you might have had, but if there is anything else please reach out to us on one of the socials pages in our footer, or by e-mail!
